Moths are arguably one of the most ecologically important insect groups in terrestrial ecosystems, yet historically, there is limited knowledge about their diversity, distribution, and habitat associations in Montana. The Montana Moth Project (MMP) is closing this knowledge gap by documenting moths in each county across the state. In this edition of Bugs & Brews, MMP founder Mat Seidensticker will discuss how the project started, current progress, and future directions.
